Recruitment of officers f the Indian Civil and Political Services and Burma Civil Service (Class 1) to the Colonial Administrative Service.

The impending abolition of the above Services has given to the Colonial Administrative Service an opportunity to absorb . number of officers of proved ability who desire to continue service overseas.

2. I have therefore agreed that a limited number of

these officers shall be offered transfer to the Colonial Administrative Service on terms granting them incremental credit for their I. C. S. service. Full details are set out

extended to those officers of the Indian Army and Indian

Police, who belong to the Indian Political Service. As you are no doubt aware this Service is recruited in the proportion of one third from the Indian Civil Service and two thirds from

the Services mentioned above.

3. I have to date received a total of 157 applic..tions and although a certain proportion will undoubtedly be absorbed into the Home Civil Service and Foreign Service, it is clear that a relatively large number of officers are anxious to continue in a Service career overseas. There wil be among them a few men of outstanding calibre, and the average standard may be taken as equivalent to that of members of the Colonial Administrative Service of e qual seniority, particularly in the middle grades.
